Madeleine McCann
June 11, 2007

There's no doubt that the story of Madeleine McCann's disappearance and the search for the missing four-year-old has been a major event over the last four weeks.

Millions of you are checking regularly for news updates, thousands of you have downloaded the various posters and hundreds of you are taking part in the discussion on our new message boards.

But opinion is divided.

Here are examples of the various strands of opinion sent to me.

Email 1: "We are fed up with hearing about Madeleine and her family. "

Email 2: "Please keep up the good work and report daily every little aspect of this situation."

We believe we have got the balance right - reporting developments when they happen (for example, we are in Morocco today to cover the visit by Madeleine's parents) but not giving the story the same attention as in the early days.

The special section on the search for Madeleine is still on our website. Click here for the latest.

And you can join in the discussions by clicking here.

Your Qatar Airlines advert:
'Over the Pyrenees, a downpour of Earl Grey tea - lifting later' - I think that the tea cup in the background should lift - with the accompanying voice over.

I really enjoy your channel

Thank you for your views.

I don't recognise your description of our reporting, Alan, and it seems other viewers don't either.

I think Sky News have put other news channels to shame on the coverage for Madeleine. I never had an opinion about news channels until now. I constantly watch Sky News for news of Madeleine. Anyone who is fed up of the story should be ashamed and are completly selfish and obviously don't have children so have no empathy. Continue the hard work in the nations search for Madeleine.

I keep up with Madeleine news on the internet and am pleased that so many people are still praying for her safe return. Well done Sky News. If there is a God up there, please bring Madeleine back to her family.

Sky News,
Thank you for the continued coverage of Madeleine. What you are doing is wonderful (a section devoted to her) and I hope you will keep this story as a top priority. Most of your viewers are grateful that you are not forgetting her even though it's been 41 long days. I have never seen such amazing coverage for a missing child and I hope you will keep missing children a priority. Politics and movie stars etc are hardly important when it comes to a child's life. PLEASE KEEP MADELEINE IN THE NEWS UNTIL SHE IS FOUND. Thank you!!!!

Sky News, your coverage has been unbalanced and biased to the McCanns. They have hypnotised you into a soft non-rigorous reporting of the situation. You have not probed the reasons behind the parents abandonding their children aged 4 (Maddie) and 2 (the twins) while they go out at night. The spin that the husband Gerry puts on it during one of your interviews, saying it was like leaving the kids while we were in the garden, seems to imply they were within a few metres of their apartment. One of your early reports did show that they were at least 200 metres away over the length of a smimming pool and gardens and hedges. The door of the apartment wasn't in view. Even if they had been Olympic runners, they could not have covered the ground in time to rescue her.
Every child has the right to care - every parent has the duty to provide it.
I certainly hope after all this time that Maddie is found safe against all the odds.

For those of you who are mooting that Sky News is giving too much coverage to the McCann case, all I can say is: 'shame on you'. I sincerely hope none of your children ever has to suffer the hardships that this child has gone through or is currently going through. We owe it to this little princess not to forget her and to keep searching. Can you people even comprehend what may be going on in her little head?

Dear Folks at Sky,

I am an English expat living in Canada (since Aug 2006) and I am so thrilled to say you have done the McCann family proud with your continued coverage.

I feel that the BBC has let them down very badly but you have continued on.
The only coverage we see of this dreadful event in Canada is what you have provided via your web site. Thank you so much for keeping all those of us who care so well informed.

Each morning, noon and night at home and work I check for updates as I too have a daughter Maddy's age and I could not comprehend losing her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and we are all praying for positive news.

Please keep supporting the family, you are keeping the plight in the fore front............well done sky.

ive never written anything like his before and my keyboard is fading....a hot mug of tea last week straight into the lap top has not done it much good!!!

Dont give up on the Mcganns like the BBC .....its as bad as giving up on Maddy.

Well done everyone

Sky news has been a great source of comfort in the search for Madeleine to all of the millions + millions who care to know. And I am sure, especially to Gerry and Kate and their family. For those who 'are fed up with hearing about Madeleine and her family' it is easy for them to avoid this news and switch to something of their particular interest. Sky News has proved to the world that we care about our children, and indeed the journalists act as guardians on our behalf by holding this plight of Madeleine, and all other missing children to the foreground of our daily conscience and prayers. May Gerry and Kate take strength in this knowledge while they reflect on 'what to do next'in the search of their beloved daughter.
