Mayoral Debate
April 28, 2008

Thanks for all the emails, texts and blog comments with questions or reaction to the Mayoral debate on Sky News.

We aired as many as we could. This is interactivity in action and something we are keen to pursue.

Although the debate involved candidates from the three main parties, we have provided full details of all those standing for London Mayor.

And don't forget our test of the candidates' policies so you can find out whose views match your own opinions on the key issues.

Although I enjoyed the exchanges between Diane Abbott and Rachel Johnson on the Adam Boulton programme today, I was somewhat disappointed at Ms Abbott's apparent, smug attitude towards Londoners' intelligence and their democratic right to choose a
new mayor. The good lady went to great lengths to blame the suburban boroughs for behaving selfishly to get rid of Mayor Livingstone. She likened Boris Johnson to Bertie Wooster and seemed to accuse him of being a racist, although she did deny this.

Ms Abbott also appears to be quite divisive inasmuch as, in the case of the London mayoral election, she is setting inner and outer boroughs against each other when instead, she ought to be using her priveleged powers to bring people together. If I wished to be unkind to her, I would try my best to employ here the use of the words 'Humbug' and 'Hypocrite' bearing in mind that some time ago, she took her son out of an inner-city school and placed him in a suburban, fee-paying school.
In my opinion, the woman is shameless and should have a television programme made about her.

please leave boris's father alone, if u want to interegate anyone get gordon brown in there and ask him how he didn't know cutting out the 10p tax wouldn't hurt anyone. if he didn't know that what else doesn't he know. ask him why the poor at the bottom are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. NEVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE WILL I VOTE LABOUR. MY FATHER WOULD BE TURNING IN HIS GRAVE AT WHAT LABOUR HAVE DONE TO THE WORKING CLASSES. that's not all but it will have to do for now thanks linda

Brown&Co still don't get it !!
This is not a 'kick up the backside' - It is good bye !
If Brown had any respect for democracy he would now go to the country and let the people decide at last who they want to lead them - He has had ten years - Time for a new goverment - Ex Socialist

Congratulations Boris, as well as the Conservative Party....now can prepare to pull the troops out of Iraq ????

If Boris does win, all I can say is "Thank the Gods " that at last the voters have come to their senses and we can hopefully get rid of "Blairs" Government and get the only party (Conservatives) in as soon as possible and get this Country back on it's feet. The Labour party should be dis-banded as the Country would be better off with a sensible Liberal opposition.

Let this defeat for Labour be a lesson to ALL politicians, that this is what happens when you don't listen to and turn your backs on the indiginous population of Britain and favour the people from every other country in the world exept us!!

about comments made by francis hands ref the building of a mosque .can i point out that the labour mayor of stoke on trent mr m.meredith is having the same type of remarks made as these in our local press the sentinel, about the building of a mosque in our area.i am of the opinion, live and let live, its no problem at all that our muslim friends wish to build on land given to them by our city.i will add that the real chritian communities wish them well.so the words of francis hands are far from being christian,in fact i think they are raciist,he should be ashamed of himself,as should our local press in banning people in defending the elected mayors stance on this, and other issues in defence of labour party policy.

A question to Ken Linigstone.
You claim to support an integrated and tolerant (respected) multi-cultural London society.
Please justify your claim having given support for the construction of the largest mosque in Christendom whilst denying the construction of a church for local Christian communities.
So much for your respect of the democratic right of conscience and expression when transgressing your bias of secular progression; in particular your anti-Christian angst. Such bigotry denies your candidacy.

Why on earth should Londoners be subjected to the thinking of an out of touch egotistical toff?...........thats my conclusion after the debate.............destructive power seeking tatics by Johnson will hopefully be recognized for being exactly that

Excellent debate. Far superior to question time which has become dull. Look forward to a debate of this sort at general election.

Sky congratulations on your Mayoral debate coverage tonight, absolutley first class. I thought Boris was the clear winner by miles then Brian Paddick but I could not believe how weak Ken was and I was a Ken fan previously.
