Dambusters Anniversary
May 16, 2008

There have been a lot of complimentary remarks about our camera work for the commemoration of the the 65th anniversary of the Dambusters attack.

It is nice when the people behind the cameras get the credit and recognition they deserve.

The pictures from the Sky helicopter at the start of the video clip were shot by Steve Leach.

It is absolutely right that the Dambusters be remembered. So isn't it about time that Bomber Command were recognised with a medal. They were ignored for the work that they did because politician having ordered the raids into Germany subsequently thought it was wrong to have done so and of course blamed Sir Arthur Harris for THEIR decision to go ahead. Another case of politicians being two-faced. But we should honour all the men who carried out their bidding at substantial loss to themselves in lives and wounds, after all there are fewer left each year.

To Sky News
May I thank you for the camera work on covering the fly past. It takes a first class camera but even more a first class camera man.

THANK YOU,

these are great pictures and makes me very proud of the brave men who risked their lives to save their country. however you should really mention the huge loss of life that these bombs caused, conservative estimates are 1200, where most people today agree it was nearly 1600. many of these were innocent people, killed in their beds while they slept. over 1000 were soviet POW and forced labourers. we also must remember that although two dams were damaged and water production was reduced by 75%, within a few months the dams were rebuilt and water production was back to normal. so although the missions killed many innocent people and the planners could have chosen better targets, we must thank the 53 men who lost their lives and the survivors for their bravery, while remembering the civilians and prisoners who died.

Absolutely superb coverage of the Dambusters Anniversary. Amazing footage from the helicopter. Congrats to all involved.
