The release from prison of singer Pete Doherty has led to the inevitable chorus of criticism.
The recurring theme of some of your comments is: "Oh no, not more showbiz stories. We don't care."
But take a moment to look at the story more closely.
Has the Babyshambles singer received any different treatment to other prisoners in the same position?
Is the fact that he is a celebrity (or should that be "so-called celebrity"?) a factor?
Is prison the best way to treat drug offenders, albeit his time behind bars was for breaching his probation?
Now, what started as a straight showbiz story takes on more of a social and public policy dimension.
And judging by your comments so far, these are issues which you care about.

Why oh why are we faced with the constant bombardment of "news" about such fools as Winehouse and Doherty . Not to mention the Hilton idiots and the Lohan twit They get away with stuff that the rest of us would be charged with . They are a complete waste of space and any young woman who sees them as a role model should be de-programmed . With all that is going on in this world of ours we don't need to hear about these overindulged fools any more. PLEASE, stop with this madness, quit giving them space in newspapers or anywhere for that matter. They are overindulged as it is and frankly most of the world simply do not care. Put people in your paper who actually have something to contribute to society and the world at large. Enough is enough !

The point isn't about his treatment compared with others. ..the point is why are you SKY NEWS enabling this waste and ugly thing to gain noteriety by splashing him on our screens. Pete Doherty is a shambles. I understood the publicity and coverage of Paris Hilton (at least she looks good), but Pete Doherty & Amy Winehouse?
